About
Join us for a pre-season We Walk PHL mixer and Camp Academy kickoff featuring the Philly Gear Library. This event kicks off the beginning of a collaborative series that we are building out to educate and encourage residents to commune with nature for wellness, outdoor recreation, entertainment, stewardship, camp camaraderie and park etiquette and survival, solo or with others.

Rain or shine and family friendly

About the Trail: The wooded Boxer’s Trail is dirt and gravel with a few inclines. We will walk for approximately one hour and then emerge from the wooded trail at Mt Pleasant Mansion, returning to the Discovery Center for resources and camping activities.

Come and learn about the Philly Gear Library and enjoy the workshop orientation. The Philly Gear Library will provide everything that a typical camp setup includes.

Tap into the camping knowledge shared for thriving recreation, gear care, outdoor etiquette, navigating weather and survival.

Learning safe ways to set up camp, learn about our upcoming workshop plans, and the camping trip in August, where you can practice what you've learned with the gear provided or bring your gear.

Mission: We exist to eliminate the barrier of gear ownership in pursuit of camping and backpacking activities for minoritized and marginalized groups.

Bio: Robin Roberts - Founder of Philly Gear Library, is a practicing physical therapist with a Master’s in Physical Therapy and Business Administration and a Doctor of Physical Therapy from Temple University.

Her passion for Philly Gear Library has developed from years of experiencing the joys and healing of being in nature. She also noticed that many communities of color would benefit from nature adventures, but were frequently absent. One of the major barriers that keeps people from participating is the lack of appropriate gear.

It is our major goal to eliminate the barrier of “gear” so that communities of color can participate in more outdoor experiences. Certifications: First Aid/Basic Life Support (BLS, CPR & AED), Wilderness First Responder (WFR)

We Walk PHL is a program in partnership between Fairmount Park Conservancy, the Philadelphia Department of Public Health, and Philadelphia Parks & Recreation that offers free weekly walking groups at various public parks throughout the city.
